Firefly fans?!
Hey everyone - new member here. :)

Just two things:

1. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Christchurch Armageddon - it'll be my first Armageddon ever because I just moved (back) to New Zealand (from Sydney) last year! Is anyone here going? :D

2. Please, PLEASE tell me that I will be recognisable in my Firefly-verse Inara Serra costume... because I don't know how popular Firefly was/is in NZ (though the fact that both Firefly and Serenity are listed as community interests seems to be a good sign). :O

I was thinking of making a different costume, but I don't have the funding, and this one was almost finished before I moved. Plus, I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it (literally). ;)

1. Armageddon is an awesome weekend and you're going to have a blast (I wish I was going this year!). Is this your first NZ Armageddon, or first Armageddon in general? (they have a couple in Aussie, but I can't recall what cities).

2. I don't think a LOT of ppl will recognise it, because Firefly was shown in a bad time slot so only the die-hard Joss or scifi fans will know who you are. However I think those who do recognise it will be all over you for photos, because I don't often see ppl dressed as Firefly characters.

First Armageddon ever! I didn't go to the one in Australia - I'm pretty sure it's in Melbourne only. I did go to Supanova so I'm interested to see how the two compare. I suspect that Armageddon will be more fun, just because people in Christchurch generally seem to be more out-going and less snarky than Sydney-siders. ;)

Firefly had a crappy time-slot in Australia, too... but it did manage to gather a cult following of sci-fi/Joss fans. I was wondering if the same thing happened here... I'm pretty happy if only the Firefly fans recognise me - I just wanted to make sure they existed in Christchurch. Otherwise I'll just look like some random fantasy cosplyer. :D

They do exist, though they're few and far between.
:-(

Thanks for your comment! :)

I'm going to wear the costume anyway... if people don't have enough taste to love Firefly then that's not my problem. ;D

Actually I considered making something more recognisable, but a.) I can't afford to and b.) I put a lot of effort/money into my Inara costume, and c.) I love Firefly. :)

I hope you have a chance to post a recap of Armageddon here, so those of us who can't make it to the ChCh one can read how it went.

Definitely! I don't have a digital camera but the Armageddon website seems to have pretty good coverage (including videos). I'd love to be able to get some pics though.

I'm sorry you have to miss out... are there any good cons or expos where you are right now?

I really like the Armageddon cons. Sure they pack too many people into the venues and it's hard to move around, BUT they're usually organised well on the guest side of things. Plus they're cheap to get into, and compared with prices for photos/autos overseas they're reasonable.

There's a creation con across the water from me in April, but it sold out before I got a ticket. I'm not too bothered because I couldn't really justify the cost of the con anyway. Craaaazy expensive.

I've read that overseas cons are pretty expensive to get into... where does the money go? Location, guests, licenses, etc? Are there more highly paid guests or something? I often wonder how the people who organise the Armageddon and Supanova expos manage to sell the tickets so cheaply...
